Growing up in Hamburg, Astrid and her brothers learned to play music in the church, singing gospel hymns together and listening to country music on the radio. After moving to Calgary as a teenager, she started playing gigs in the country, pop and R&B scene, cutting her teeth as a singer and bass player over the course of the next decade. Though she featured on various recordings at the time, the new “Shadows” EP will be the first record of her own material. Featuring co-writing and performances from her son Steven, husband Bob, daughters Kirstie and Sarah, as well as Sam “Strawberry” Gleason and Charles James, “Shadows” is an honest and soulful exploration of memory, ranging from funky Americana to tear-in-your-beer ballads.
