The Post-Classical Guitarist Collective is a newly-formed group that uses the guitar as a means of sonic exploration and experimentation. Featuring composer-guitarists Sam Mason, Bilal Nasser, and Simon Farintosh, this collective aims to infuse the classical guitar into more contemporary styles of music such as post-rock, ambient electronic, and punk. Sam, Bilal, and Simon were the winners of the Ottawa Guitar Society Composition Competition in 2018, 2020, and 2022 respectively, and will each be releasing a new album this year. This show will kickstart a small tour across Ontario and Quebec in promotion of the new material, and will be the group’s first time performing at The Painted Lady. Expect to hear a variety of solo and group performances featuring improvisation and never-heard original music!
Sam Mason is an artist from Toronto who creates pieces in the mediums of language, music and digital art centered on the themes of nihilism, class consciousness and psychedelia. @samuel.c.mason
Bilal Nasser is a Palestinian-Canadian guitarist and composer from Windsor, Ontario. While his technique is informed by his classical background, Nasser’s music occurs as a frenetic and dialectical juxtaposition of musical influences not typically associated with “classical guitar”, including shoegaze, post-rock, drone and punk. @bilalguitar
Simon Farintosh is an award-winning guitarist and composer from Victoria, British Columbia. He is known for his unconventional programming choices, connecting with audiences by integrating the classical guitar with contemporary forms such as electronica, popular music and jazz. @simonf_guitar
